MARYLAND TRANSIT ADMINISTRATION LAUNCHES PILOT BUS SERVICE TO HOME CHEF

Expanded Service on LocalLink 73 Connects Riders to New Employment Center

BALTIMORE, MD (June 2, 2023) – As part of its effort to serve emerging job centers, the Maryland Department of Transportation Maryland Transit Administration will begin pilot bus service to the new Home Chef food preparation facility on E. Patapsco Avenue in Baltimore, effective Monday, June 5. The pilot service will operate as an extension of the LocalLink 73 route, providing three daily roundtrips, seven days a week. Home Chef expects to employ more than 500 people by 2024. The Maryland Transit Administration will continue to evaluate initial service levels as Home Chef onsite staffing increases.

“The Maryland Transit Administration connects riders to job centers throughout the state and our new service to Home Chef is the latest example,” said Maryland Transit Administrator Holly Arnold. “This new LocalLink service will provide much needed access to this commercial hub.”

Bus destination signage for LocalLink 73 buses headed toward Home Chef will say “Wagner’s Point” and return trips will indicate “State Center.” Travel time between downtown Baltimore and Home Chef will range from 46 to 48 minutes. LocalLink 73 also connects with the Patapsco Light Rail stop, allowing for easy connecting options for riders.

The pilot program is expected to be in effect for up to one year. The Maryland Transit Administration will conduct periodic reviews of ridership figures to evaluate initial service levels as Home Chef onsite staffing increases.
