FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Free Transit Honors Service of America’s Military Personnel

BALTIMORE, MD (November 2, 2022)The Maryland Department of Transportation Maryland Transit Administration (MDOT MTA) is recognizing Veterans Day by offering free transit rides for all U.S. military veterans, active-duty military and members of the National Guard and Reserves on Friday, November 11, 2022. This is the fourth consecutive year MDOT MTA has provided free transit across the agency’s fixed-route services to honor our nation’s military personnel.

“We appreciate the sacrifices veterans and military personnel have made for us and our nation,” said MDOT MTA Administrator Holly Arnold. “A free day of transit is one way we can say ‘thank you’ for their service and commitment.”

Free transit rides will be available on MDOT MTA Local Bus, Metro Subway, Light Rail, MARC Train and Commuter Bus. To qualify, active and retired military members will need to show an ID under one of three classifications:

  • U.S. Department of Defense issued ID (Armed Forces/Uniformed Services/Military Retiree);
  • U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs issued ID; or
  • Maryland MVA Veteran designation on a driver’s license or state ID.

While military personnel can ride for free on Veterans Day, customers are reminded that the CharmPass mobile ticketing app provides convenient ticketing solutions for all riders. For schedule information and to plan a trip, visit mta.maryland.gov. MDOT MTA recommends that riders use the Transit app to help navigate the system. The free app offers real-time schedules, predicted arrival times and step-by step navigation for all fixed-route service including Local Bus, Light Rail, Metro Subway, MARC Train and Commuter Bus.
