Description:

To support new Metro Subway railcars and an improved rider experience, MTA will upgrade the Metro Subway train control system beginning Saturday, Sept 7, 2024. The upgrade process is expected to take one week. During this time, Metro Subway service will continue to operate on current schedules and headways, but real-time train arrival and train location information may not be available on the Transit app or on station platform signage.

The train control system upgrade to Communications Based Train Control (CBTC) is the latest part of MTA's $400 million Metro Subway railcar and train control replacement project. New rail cars are expected to be introduced into the fleet in 2025. The new CBTC system will provide improved real-time tracking and improve overall system performance and reliability.
