FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
Design of College Park MARC Station Improvement Project Will Advance Moore-Miller Administration Priorities of Safety and Accessibility
College Park, MD (October 15, 2026) – The Maryland Department of Transportation Maryland Transit Administration (MTA) is working to improve MARC train accessibility for all. MTA invites the community to come out for a public meeting to view concepts for the College Park MARC Accessible Station Project on October 27 from 6 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. at the College Park City Council First Floor Community Room.
Participants who attend the October 27 meeting will have an opportunity to review the selected concepts, ask questions and provide input for consideration. The College Park MARC station improvements build on the station's growing role in the region's public transportation network and are funded by the Federal Transit Administration’s All Stations Accessibility Program through 30% design.
“The Moore-Miller Administration is prioritizing the advancement of infrastructure that better connects Marylanders to opportunities and each other,” said MTA Administrator Tony Bridges. “By engaging in public feedback that focuses on ensuring accessibility and passenger safety for all, we are making sure to listen to those most affected by the changes we make.” The project will transform how passengers access MARC trains by adding two new low-level platforms, one on each side of the station, making it easier for passengers of all abilities to board and exit trains. The existing at-grade pedestrian crossing will also be removed, creating a safer station environment by eliminating the need for pedestrians to cross active train tracks. The project will also include improved signal and communications to help riders navigate the station, benches and shading, bicycle storage facilities, environmentally sensitive lighting, nature-based stormwater infrastructure and tree plantings.
