BALTIMORE, MD (August 18, 2026) – The Maryland Department of Transportation Maryland Transit Administration is now accepting applications for the fourth cohort of the Youth Transit Council (YTC). The 2026–2027 YTC program will offer young people in the Baltimore area an opportunity to learn how the MTA operates, provide suggestions and explore career options in the public transportation industry. Applications are open through Wednesday, September 16, 2026.

“Baltimore-area youth are an important part of our ridership” said Maryland Transit Administrator Tony Bridges. “The YTC participants have contributed in meaningful ways and are helping us build a transit system that reflects the needs of the next generation.”

Through this dynamic forum, MTA seeks to build stronger connections with youth, ensuring their perspectives are valued and incorporated into the development of a more connected and responsive transit system. Additional benefits of participating in the Council include:

  • serving as the voice of youth riders in conversations with MTA departments,
  • gaining teamwork and leadership skills through collaboration with peers and
  • eligibility for a letter of recommendation after participation in six meetings.

Teens interested in joining the volunteer council can learn more and submit an online application at mta.maryland.gov/youth-transit-council. Individuals can email questions to ytc@mdot.maryland.gov.  Applications are due no later than 11:59 p.m. on Wednesday, September 16, 2026.
