FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
Officers to Highlight Transit Safety Strategies, Gather Community Input
BALTIMORE, MD (August 4, 2025) – The Maryland Department of Transportation Maryland Transit Administration Police is proud to join the local Baltimore community at two events in support of National Night Out on Tuesday, August 5, 2025. National Night Out is an annual national community-building campaign that provides an opportunity for community members to meet the people behind the badge and learn about the department’s efforts to maintain a safe and secure transit system. Promoting police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie makes our communities safer and more caring places to live and ride.
“The Maryland Transit Administration Police recognize the importance of National Night Out as a hands-on way to demonstrate the agency’s commitment to safety on public transit,” said Maryland Transit Administration Chief of Police Col. Jerome E. Howard, Jr. “National Night Out gives our officers the opportunity to directly engage with the communities we serve and increase safety awareness.”
Building safe transit systems starts with strong community relationships. Maryland Administration Transit Police representatives will be at the following locations to directly connect with riders and community members, provide transit safety tips, and collect feedback:
- Halethorpe Community: 6-8:30 p.m. UMBC Stadium Lot, 1000 Hill Top Circle, Baltimore, Maryland 21250
- Franklintown Community: 6-8 p.m. 5214 Windsor Mill Road, Gwynn Oak, Maryland 21207
The agency’s police officers look forward to meeting with community members and encourage all residents to join them for this free event. National Night Out is one of several community outreach programs the Maryland Transit Administration Police Department participates in throughout the year. Other events include the Polar Bear Plunge, the Torch Run to support the Special Olympics, and the Adopt-A-Family program during the holiday period.
