BALTIMORE, MD (May 5, 2025) –The Maryland Department of Transportation Maryland Transit Administration is encouraging horse racing fans attending the 150th Preakness Stakes on Saturday, May 17, to leave their vehicles at home and take fast, affordable public transportation to Pimlico Race Course in Baltimore. Taking Local Bus, Light Rail, Metro Subway or MARC Train to this year’s festivities is a simple and stress-free way to arrive in time for the first post and enjoy the second jewel of racing’s Triple Crown.
"As thousands of fans arrive in Baltimore to celebrate the historic Preakness weekend, MTA's dedicated team of bus and rail operators will help you get down the stretch and right to the action," said Maryland Transportation Secretary Paul J. Wiedefeld. "Whether you plan to dress up or jam out in the infield, you will beat the crowd and win the race with transit."
“We’re excited to welcome fans to Preakness and want to ensure that everyone has a smooth experience getting to the event,” said Maryland Transit Administrator Holly Arnold. “By taking public transit, riders can avoid the stress of traffic and high parking fees and have a safe, reliable and affordable way to enjoy the day.”
The fare for all local MTA services is $2 one-way and $4.60 for a day pass, which includes unlimited travel on Local Bus, Light Rail and Metro Subway trains. Shuttle buses will run from Rogers Avenue Metro Subway Station, Cold Spring Lane Light Rail Stop and Poly-Western High School to take people to and from Pimlico Race Course. Shuttles will depart on a rolling basis as they fill to capacity.
Whether you’re heading to Pimlico to enjoy the races, food, or entertainment, getting there with transit is easier than ever. The Transit app provides riders the ability to know when their bus or train will arrive in real time. Riders can use the CharmPass mobile ticketing app for fast and easy access to fares.
