CASHLESS, PAPERLESS CONVENIENCE MADE EASY FOR MOBILITY RIDERS WITH CHARMPASS MOBILE FARE APP

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Instant Fare That’s Always There Turns Mail Delays, Exact Change Requirements and Trips to the Transit Store into a Thing of the Past for Riders and Caregivers

BALTIMORE, MD (July 5, 2023) – As of July 1, the Maryland Department of Transportation Maryland Transit Administration is now providing the ease of use, enhanced security and convenience of CharmPass mobile transit fare payments to Mobility riders. Prior to the launch of CharmPass for Mobility customers, riders or caregivers relied on ticket books that were either sent by mail or purchased at the agency’s Transit Store in downtown Baltimore, or were required to pay the exact fare in cash. While those options are still available to all Mobility customers, riders and caregivers who download the CharmPass app to their smartphone have a more convenient way to pay transit fares.

“The CharmPass app has been noted in surveys as one of the most user-friendly fare payment apps in the nation,” said Maryland Transit Administrator Holly Arnold. “We are proud to put that technology to work on behalf of our many thousands of Mobility customers who use our service every day.”

With the free CharmPass app, riders can pay for services directly from their smartphones using a credit  card, debit card or PayPal. With CharmPass, your transit fare goes everywhere your phone does. Since tickets are stored on the phone, they can even be activated in areas with poor cellphone or Wi-Fi coverage. Even a lost or misplaced phone is no problem for CharmPass users, since a record of payments and trips is logged automatically, and any lost fare value is easily replaced.

The Maryland Transit Administration is one of the largest multi-modal transit systems in the United States, operating Local Bus service, Commuter Bus, Light Rail, Metro Subway, MARC Train Service and a comprehensive Mobility paratransit system. The agency’s goal is to provide safe, efficient and reliable transit across Maryland with world-class customer service.
