LIGHT RAIL TRACK REPLACEMENT PROJECT SCHEDULED FOR JUNE 12-29 BETWEEN HUNT VALLEY AND TIMONIUM FAIRGROUNDS

Free Bus Bridge Will Transport Riders Between Affected Stops

BALTIMORE, MD (June 6, 2023) – The Maryland Department of Transportation Maryland Transit Administration will begin a planned light rail track maintenance project to replace nearly 450 feet of rail at the Pepper Road Grade Crossing in Baltimore County. The project will begin on Monday, June 12, and continue through Thursday, June 29.

During this time, all light rail stops from Hunt Valley to Timonium Fairgrounds will be closed and a bus bridge will be in place to transport riders between the affected stops: Hunt Valley, Pepper Road, McCormick Road, Gilroy Road, Warren Road and Timonium Fairgrounds.

Full service is scheduled to resume Friday, June 30. This track replacement project is part of the agency’s efforts to maintain the light rail system so that riders experience a smoother and more reliable ride.

“This track work is crucial to maintaining our light rail system in a state of good repair,” said Maryland Transit Administrator Holly Arnold. “We encourage riders to allow for additional travel time during construction, and we appreciate their patience during this important project.”

The Maryland Transit Administration will continue to keep riders informed through signage at each stop, platform announcements, updates via social media and the agency’s website, and through the e-alert notification system. Transit Ambassadors will be at the affected light rail stops to assist riders. Passengers also can call the Transit Information Contact Center at 410-539-5000.

The Maryland Transit Administration is one of the largest multi-modal transit systems in the United States, operating Local Bus service, Commuter Bus, Light Rail, Metro Subway, MARC Train Service and a comprehensive Mobility paratransit system. The agency’s goal is to provide safe, efficient and reliable transit across Maryland with world-class customer service.
