MDOT MTA Launches New ‘Gift of Transit’ CharmCard®

New, decorative gift card available beginning November 25

BALTIMORE, MD (November 26, 2019) – Just in time for the holidays, the Maryland Department of Transportation Maryland Transit Administration (MDOT MTA) is unveiling a special “Gift of Transit” CharmCard® that will be available beginning Monday, November 25.

Inspired by an employee suggestion, the decorative CharmCard® will be offered at the MDOT MTA Transit Store at 6 St. Paul St., Baltimore, and at select retail outlets while supplies last. CharmCards® allow riders to “tap and go” when paying transit fares on Local Bus, Light RailLink and Metro SubwayLink.

“This special CharmCard® makes it easier than ever to give the gift of safe, affordable MDOT MTA transit to family and friends,” said MDOT MTA Administrator Kevin Quinn.

CharmCards® are reloadable, smart fare cards embedded with a computer chip to keep track of the cash value on each card. Once purchased and loaded with funds, the cards can be registered to a friend and family member through the MDOT MTA website
