FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
BALTIMORE, MD (November 6, 2019) –The Maryland Department of Transportation Maryland Transit Administration (MDOT MTA) will offer free transit rides for all U.S. military veterans, active-duty military, and members of the National Guard and Reserves on Veteran’s Day, Monday, November 11, 2019.
Providing a day of free, unlimited rides is a way to thank and honor the commitment and service of America’s military personnel.
“We want to express our gratitude to those who have sacrificed themselves for the freedoms we enjoy,” said MDOT MTA Administrator Kevin Quinn. “MDOT MTA is proud to have veterans and military personnel ride for free on the day that recognizes their commitment to our country.”
Free transit rides will be available on MDOT MTA Local Bus, Metro SubwayLink, Light RailLink, MARC Train and Commuter Bus.
To qualify for a free ride, active and retired military members will need to show an ID under one of three classifications:
- U.S. Department of Defense issued ID (Armed Forces/Uniformed Services/Military Retiree);
- U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs issued ID;
- Maryland MVA Veteran designation on a driver’s license or state ID.
For schedule information and to plan a trip, visit mta.maryland.gov. Riders can also download the Transit app for free in the Google Play or App store to see real-time bus arrival times. While military personnel can ride for free, the CharmPass mobile ticketing app provides convenient ticking solutions for all riders.

MDOT MTA operates LocalLink and commuter buses, Light RailLink, Metro SubwayLink, Maryland Area Regional Commuter (MARC) Train service and a comprehensive Mobility (paratransit) system.
