Metro SubwayLink Planned Rail Maintenance to Begin September 14

Transit Ambassadors and Comprehensive Communications Plan Will Keep Passengers Informed

BALTIMORE, MD (AUGUST 30, 2018) – The Maryland Department of Transportation Maryland Transit Administration (MDOT MTA) will undertake planned Metro SubwayLink track maintenance beginning September 14 through November 4. All stations will remain open for service as the track work is completed.  The maintenance work will be performed on weekends with single-tracking to maintain service for riders at all times.  Due to single-tracking on weekends, riders may experience delays on Saturday and Sunday. This rail work is part of MDOT MTA’s more than $900 million investment in rail infrastructure scheduled over the next several years.

“Planned rail maintenance is a critical element of our commitment to safety,” said MDOT MTA Administrator Kevin Quinn. “While interruptions to service are never welcome, we are employing every measure to make sure our riders have the information they need to get where they’re going.”

MDOT MTA has prepared a variety of communications efforts to keep passengers informed before and during the planned work. Signage will be placed at each station and Transit Ambassadors will be available to help passengers plan their route.  In addition, MDOT MTA will provide continuing updates via social media, the MDOT MTA e-alert notification system as well as the MDOT MTA website.

MDOT MTA is one of the largest multi-modal transit systems in the United States. MDOT MTA operates LocalLink and commuter buses, Light RailLink, Metro SubwayLink, MARC Train service and a comprehensive Mobility paratransit system. MDOT MTA’s goal is to provide safe, efficient and reliable transit across Maryland with world-class customer service.
