Description:

Amtrak has notified MARC Train that they will be conducting a six week trackwork project in the tunnel between West Baltimore and Penn Station starting Saturday, July 25 through Sunday, September 6. This will result in one of two tracks being out of service during this time. Amtrak is taking advantage of reduced train schedules and ridership during the coronavirus pandemic to perform major repairs in the tunnel, specifically the drainage system and concrete trackbed. These repairs will result in a smoother ride for MARC passengers and, more importantly, improved reliability of the track which will reduce delays.

During this project, only one train in either direction will be able to pass through the tunnel at a time. Both weekday and weekend MARC Penn Line trains may experience delays of 5-10 minutes between West Baltimore and Penn Station while waiting for other trains to pass through the tunnel.

In addition, for the duration of this project, weekday Trains 428 (4:05pm departure from Union Station) and Train 445 (5:35pm departure from Penn Station) will be cancelled. Passengers will be accommodated on Trains 532 (4:17pm departure from Union Station) and Train 447 (5:45pm departure from Penn Station). Train 447 will make all stops between Baltimore and Washington.

We regret any inconvenience these delays may cause and appreciate your patience and understanding as Amtrak performs critical maintenance on their infrastructure.
