Ceremony Includes Signing, Raising and Placement of Final Truss
Baltimore, MD (October 24, 2019)– The Maryland Department of Transportation Maryland Transit Administration (MDOT MTA) held a “topping-out” ceremony today, placing the final truss on the roof of its $148 million Kirk Avenue Bus division project in northeast Baltimore. This milestone is part of

the construction process as teams deliver a state-of-the-art bus facility that will enhance MDOT MTA transit operations.

“The Transportation and Storage facility is the final piece to complete the Kirk Avenue Bus division project. said MDOT MTA Administrator Kevin Quinn. “This project, which includes two buildings, will give the agency the right tools to maintain its growing fleet of buses and improve reliability for all customers throughout Maryland.”

The new Transportation and Storage building will house and maintain nearly 175 MTA buses and provide fueling, washing and dispatching functions. It will also house administrative offices and operator support facilities. The fully enclosed building will reduce noise, bus emissions and vehicle visibility to the surrounding community.

The event included a ceremonial signing of the truss by workers, after which it was lifted into place by a crane. Construction is expected to be complete in fall 2020. The Transportation and Storage facility is the second part of the Kirk Avenue Bus division modernization project. Phase One, a mechanical maintenance and repairs building, was completed in 2018.
