Weather Announcement

Update on the status of State offices and facilities:

The Maryland Department of Budget and Management (DBM) frequently issues announcements regarding the closure of state office buildings and liberal leave policy.

These DBM announcements reference “Emergency Essential” personnel.

MDOT MTA designates employees as either “Essential” or “Non-Essential” and the designation of “Essential” is equivalent to DBM’s “Emergency Essential.”

Any announcement issued by DBM that references the work status of Emergency Essential employees applies to MDOT MTA’s Essential employees.  For example, if Emergency Essential employees are told to report as scheduled, then MDOT MTA Essential Employees are expected to report for duty for their normally scheduled shift.

State offices and facilities in all counties and Baltimore City will be closed from 6:00 a.m. on January 26, 2026, until 10:00 a.m. on January 27, 2026. Employees who are eligible to telework should remain at home and telework unless leave is granted. Emergency essential employees should report as scheduled.

From 10:00 a.m. on January 27, 2026, until the end of day shift, the State has declared liberal leave for all counties and Baltimore City. Non-emergency essential employees who report to the office may use liberal leave between the hours of 10:00 a.m. and the end of day shift upon notification to the employee’s supervisor. Employees who are telework eligible and scheduled to telework, should telework as scheduled unless leave is granted. Emergency essential employees should report as scheduled.

Thank You
