Bowie State University will be holding their Spring 2019 Commencement on Friday, May 17. Vehicle access to campus will be restricted to graduates, Commencement ticket holders, and other invited guests. There will be no access to the east side MARC Train parking lot for MARC passengers. Prince Georges County Police will have checkpoints at the main entrance to campus off Route 197 as well as on Jericho Park Road west of the intersection with Race Track Road.
MARC Train has been working with Bowie State University and Prince Georges County Police to ensure that MARC daily commuters are accommodated:
--All MARC parking will be in the west side lot (Lemons Bridge Road side)
--On Friday, May 17 only parking will be permitted in select “No Parking” zones indicated by signage and highlighted in red on the map on the back of this page, including parking fully on the shoulder of Lemons Bridge Road.
--Parking is not permitted on the shoulder of Jericho Park Road or on the private property of adjacent homeowners. Anyone parking on Jericho Park Road will be ticked and towed.
MTA Police will be present to ensure that Commencement attendees do not use the Lemons Bridge Road lot and facilitate inbound traffic flow in the morning. In the afternoon, Prince Georges County Police will be at the corner of Lemons Bridge Road and Route 197 to facilitate exit from the parking lot and direct traffic.
Passengers should consider the following alternatives for Friday, May 17:
--Teleworking / working from home
--Driving to Muirkirk station on the Camden Line
--Riding Metrobus from the Bowie Park-And-Ride lot, located on Northview Drive next to Regal Cinemas, across from Bowie Town Center. Metrobuses depart this location every 5-15 minutes during the morning rush hour and operate non-stop to New Carrollton Metro station. Service operates at similar intervals in the evening. MARC Train weekly and monthly passes are always honored for complimentary travel on WMATA Metrobuses.
