Light RailLink Track Maintenance Planned for Hunt Valley through Timonium Fairgrounds Stops

Three-Week Effort to Begin September 14, Supported by Comprehensive Outreach

BALTIMORE, MD (AUGUST 30, 2018) – The Maryland Department of Transportation Maryland Transit Administration (MDOT MTA) will begin planned Light RailLink track maintenance and rail replacement to a limited section of the Light RailLink system over three weeks, beginning September 14 and continuing through October 4. Service will be temporarily discontinued to the Hunt Valley, Pepper Road, McCormick Road, Gilroy Road and Warren Road stops. Northbound Light RailLink will discontinue service at the Timonium Fairgrounds stop.

“MDOT MTA recognizes the critical importance transit has for its riders and is making every effort to minimize disruption to its passengers’ commute during this rail work,” said MDOT MTA Administrator Kevin Quinn. “We are focused on communicating with our customers in every way practical, before and during the planned work, to keep them apprised of developments.”

To accommodate riders, MDOT MTA will increase bus service on LocalLink #93, which currently runs between the affected stations.  With safety as our top priority, this rail work is part of MDOT MTA’s over $900 million investment in rail infrastructure improvements scheduled over the next several years.

Communications efforts include signage at each stop, Transit Ambassadors to help individual passengers plan their route, continuing updates via social media, the MDOT MTA website and

e-alert notification system as well as business outreach to make sure that employees are aware of their full range of transit options.

MDOT MTA is one of the largest multi-modal transit systems in the United States. MDOT MTA operates LocalLink and commuter buses, Light RailLink, Metro SubwayLink, MARC Train service and a comprehensive Mobility paratransit system. MDOT MTA’s goal is to provide safe, efficient and reliable transit across Maryland with world-class customer service.
