Paper SmartBenefits® Timeline
October 31st: Commuter Bus ‘On Board Sales’ – will no longer accept SmartBenefit paper vouchers after October 31st.
November 21st: Commuter Bus ‘Mail In Orders’ – will no longer accept SmarBenefit paper vouchers after November 21st.
November 21st: Any unused paper vouchers may be used to purchase tickets through the mail until November 21, 2011.
Timeline to set up SmartBenefit Account:
1st-15th Register with employer to accept SmartBenefits.
1st-20th: On WMATAs SmartBenefits website, must allocate benefits to MTA Commuter Bus.
1st-25th: Purchase Commuter Bus tickets on MTAs website www.mta.maryland.gov for the following month’s tickets.
20th - 30th MTA processes and mails SmartBenefit ticket orders.that SmartBenefit® paper vouchers will no longer be issued to employer’s after June 15, 2011. Employers have begun to give notice to their employees that they will need to get their benefits electronically. MTA Commuter Bus fare products are currently not offered through any points of sale that allow for electronic benefits. To assist customers with this issue, MTA’s website capability is being upgraded to accept SmartBenefits®.

Steps to Using Electronic SmartBenefits
To use your SmartBenefits® on MTA Commuter Bus service you must complete the following steps.
Using Electronic Benefits
STEP ONE
1. Purchase a WMATA SmarTrip® Card and register it with your name and address on www.smartrip.com, under ‘Quick Links’ link to ‘Register Your Card’. If you already have a WMATA SmarTrip® card you can use it as long as it is registered with your name and address.
2. Enroll in or already be enrolled in your Employer’s SmartBenefits® program, by the 15th day of the month for any new enrollees.
3. Log onto the WMATA Van Pool & Transit Services Website, under ‘Business with Metro’-‘Employer Fare Program’. (https://www.smartrip.com/sbftp/vplpat.login).
4. Under Van Pool & Transit Services Passengers click Step 2 Set-up or log on.
5. Click Set-up My New Account located below I’m a new SmartBenefits® User.
6. Enter your SmarTrip® card serial number and click Continue.
7. Create a User ID and Password and fill in all required information. Then click the Submit This Form button. You will be redirected to the “Welcome to the SmartBenefits® Passenger Allocation System” page.
8. Click the Continue to SmartBenefits® Passenger Allocation System.
9. Click on Bill Payment.
10. Click on Make Payment.
11. Choose your employer/administrator name from the drop-down menu and click on Add Payment.
12. Click on the Transit Provider Drop-Down Menu and choose “MTA Commuter Bus” from the drop-down transit provider menu. Click on Continue.
13. Enter $ amount into the payment amount line, fill in the percentage line, and click Continue.
14. Click Save.
15. Click Finish.
16. Click Logoff.
Once your allocation is set up and designated, it will be generated automatically on the first day of each month. You do not need to repeat the above process from month to month.
STEP TWO
Purchase Commuter Bus Tickets
17. By the 25th of each month, go to the MTA website, www.mta.maryland.gov to purchase Commuter Bus tickets and passes.
18. Click GETTING AROUND.
19. Click PASS STORE.
20. Select your product and follow prompts.
